Biography
Donna J. Dean is Senior Science Advisor with Lewis-Burke Associates, LLC where she is responsible for advocating for the public policy interests of institutions of higher education and research, as well as educational organizations. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, she was Senior Scholar in Residence at the National Academy of Engineering of the National Academies. She also has extensive experience as a senior federal government executive at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration. Her leadership on scientific and technical workforce and women’s issues has included involvement with the Federal Interagency Commission on the Advancement of Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities in Science, Engineering and Technology and the Committee to establish the 21st century women's health research agenda. She is currently involved in professional activities through the Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Executive Board of the Washington Academy of Sciences. Most recently, she served a two-year term as national President of the Association for Women in Science. Prior to her work as a federal administrator, she conducted research in biochemical endocrinology. She holds a BA in Chemistry from Berea College and a PhD in Biochemistry from Duke University.
